Myself

Hello! Welcome to my digital space. Here, I share my journey, lessons learned, and experiences in the world of technology.

You can download a professional and summarized version of this section here.

Who I Am

Hi, my name is Davi Santana, I am a software developer living in São Carlos, Brazil. My dream is to create big things, that run in even bigger servers and reach an enormous number of people. My study and work focus is at the architecturing, development, maintenance and monitoring of distributed system. In addition I aim to study more about parallel computing (CUDA, OpenCL) and HPC (High Performance Computing).

I started in the area by curiosity of how the finance market, mainly the banks, handled a lot of payments in the same time. That drove me to start a technical degree in web development in 2021.

In 2024, I began my studies in Information Systems with coursework specialization (minor) in Distributed Systems and High-Performance Computing at the University of São Paulo, in São Carlos, the largest university in Latin America. In the moment I work at Tekna.Rocks, a software consultancy based both in Brazil and the United States where I mainly work with distributed systems with high workloads, developing and monitoring 20+ services.

Beyond the IT area, I have history and economy as fields of big interest (I considered studying economy for a long time).

As my hobbies I have programming, mostly utilizing languages that I don’t work with on my day to day basis, gaming and music (I am trying to learn Strudel).

Experiences

Software Developer · Tekna.Rocks

Mill Valley, California, United States — April 2024 - Present

  • Architected and implemented integrations with Amazon SP-API and Google Drive, incorporating it into the content processing workflow and restructuring part of the infrastructure to meet both vendors requirements.
  • Developed image and document recognition workflows using Google Cloud Vision API, enhancing automation and data extraction capabilities for large-scale processing tasks.
  • Led the integration and refactoring of the two most critical services in the platform, redesigning their serverless multi-cloud distributed architecture and optimizing the processing pipeline for audio, image, and document scanning.
  • Worked extensively with microservices architecture, implementing workers for computationally intensive processing of audio, video, and text data.
  • Coordinated and delegated backend and infrastructure tasks, establishing engineering best practices and mentoring junior developers and peers on core concepts such as advanced Node.js streams and database performance optimization.
  • Identified key performance bottlenecks across the platform and defined a resolution plan covering more than 7 services and an Angular frontend. The optimization work required extensive profiling and deep expertise in JavaScript, Node.js internals, and database tuning, reducing the load time of report-heavy pages from 8 seconds to 1 second (≈85% reduction).

Volunteer Researcher · Monipaep (USP)

São Carlos, Brazil — March 2024 - February 2025

  • MoniPaep promotes public health in the São Carlos community by enabling early detection and swift response to emerging health threats.
  • Independently rebuilt and updated the mobile system to the latest package versions, ensuring improved performance, security, and user experience.
  • Constructed a deployment pipeline on AWS EC2, streamlining the deployment process and reducing downtime.
  • Mentored other team members on the nuances of the project, fostering a collaborative learning environment and improving overall project quality.

My Tech Stack

My focus is on infrastructure and backend, however I currently act as a full-stack developer

Backend

  • Node.js, the one that I know the most
  • Cloudflare Workers, it’s not my favorite runtime, but it does the job.
  • Go, love to build new things with it
  • Python, the syntax is kinda meh, but the versatility is awesome
  • Typescript, what I use 90% of my time
    • Hono, the current status quo for all my professional projects
    • Express, fast and fun
    • Nest, very cool, my go to for fast projects
    • And a lot more, i’m not a Nest or express developer, I am a Back-end engineer with deep knowledge on NodeJs and Javascript
  • PHP, miss you, very fun

SQL and NoSQL Databases

  • PostgreSQL, what I use the most
  • MySQL, PHP times
  • Redis, the most used NoSQL
  • KV and D1 Cloudflare, very efficient,

Infrastructure and Containerization

  • Docker, using everywhere
  • Podman, my go to when I need to build a quick environment
  • Terraform, makes my life a lot easier
  • Kubernetes, still learning, spoiler: it’s being awesome

Clouds

  • AWS, my favorite
  • GCP, the one that I use the most
  • Cloudflare, provides an awesome serverless edge-computing platform, however, it needs better support.

Frontend

  • Angular, my preferred frontend framework
  • Astro, used only for this site, but I liked it
